BUSINESS
& FINANCE THE BACKBONE OF THE ECONOMY
But what most often bursts the bubble of those who dream of self employment and
self-determined financial independence are the immediate roadblocks that present
themselves. Home business is huge dream of many Americans today and
millions have started a home business. Most often in a start up home
business the roadblocks will be
the need for large amounts of startup money, the need for a special skill, the
need for a business that can support you better than your current job, the need
for a business that does not require special and expensive equipment and the
need to find a business that can be done anywhere in the country, namely where
you want to live. This site will give some guidance in those areas
as well as an overview of the world of business and finance.
Starting
a business is like building a house.
It would be foolish to think anyone could build a house without a plan
and a lot of details to back up that plan.
Starting a business is no different.
There must be a plan that sets out all the details and spells out first
things first and last things last.
Many businesses fail because they were not planned well and properly
started.
After
being in the loan business for a number of years, I wish I had a dollar for
every borrower who came to my office to apply for a loan without a business
plan.
Oh they had some ideas but they were all fragmented.
No business should ever be started or undertaken
with just fragmented ideas and without a written business plan.
And what should that business plan tell you?
It should formalize every important facet of your intended business.
The most important things are;
1.
A brief describing the purpose of the business and an introduction to the
business.
2.
A description of the product or service and how it is to be developed,
procured or manufactured.
3.
A complete market analysis of the product need,
identifying the target market.
4.
Marketing program that details how the product is to
be marketed.
5.
Competition analysis within the market and why your product should gain the edge
in the marketplace.
6.
Management profile including experience and the lack of experience and plan to
offer the best management
possible.
7.
Pro forma of capital needs and how that capital is to be furnished or
obtained.
8.
Pro forma for five years showing projected profit and loss.
9.
Alternative plan of financing if pro forma is not met.
10.
Growth goals and method of reaching and attaining those goals.
This
type of a business plan will serve as a road map.
Of course there may have to be adjustments from time to time but most all
maps require a little change and adjustment.
The important thing is you still have the map for a guide.
