For a few decades in America we have witnessed a counter-culture that would have the citizens of this great nation believe we can create a utopia of peace without God. That will never happen. Sure we live in a world of mortality where secular knowledge is doubling every four years. But the alarming fact is that our spiritual progression continues to lag far behind our technological advancement. Secular knowledge is very vital to our mortal existence but not at the expense of our spiritual progress. Faith and Religion must be a part of the successful life of every individual. The two must be balanced. Our man-made laws will never take the place of the higher moral laws decreed by our Creator which we learn about in the study of faith and religion. We are seeing that great imbalance today in our nation as we become the most violent nation on earth with many forgetting or disregarding the higher moral laws. Our judicial system struggles with the upward spiral of crime and in fact our criminal justice system has become a revolving door for criminals putting Americans at great risk that could eventually lead to vigilante justice and anarchy. It is our hope and prayer that every American might remember daily our Creator and His roadmap for a successful life. It is He that made possible our very existence.

When we look beyond the obvious what do we see? We see life itself and a life that is full of rich experiences, joys and memories. Americans see a life of great convenience and abundance. It is not our secular knowledge but faith and religion that gives us eternal perspective-the knowledge that will get us through mortality. Who is responsible for life and all that abundance? Who has afforded us those experiences? We see families, mothers and fathers, grandparents, brothers and sisters, friends and relatives. We see people we love and people who love us.

Americans see a great homeland and nation with freedoms given us under a God-inspired constitution. A nation that is a shining beacon to the entire world. We see a nation that our citizens are willing to die for to protect freedom. Sure we see a nation with faults but also a nation that non-Americans are willing to run the risk of death just to get here. We hear the song “God Bless America” and it stirs the spirit within our soul. Are we reminded to thank the Lord?

Yes we see adversities. We see sadness, accidents, tragedies, crime, death and disappointments. Perhaps there is a reason for some of these adversities. When we see those things we are reminded to thank the Lord for what we have and the remaining blessings in our life and our sense of gratitude returns. It is faith and religion that keeps us grounded during these adversities.

We see a newborn baby and we are reminded of the miraculous event of birth. A birth that all began with a single cell and then multiplied into billions of cells and then emerged with a perfectly formed human being with the eyes, nose, mouth and ears all in the right place. There is even a set of teeth to chew our food. Then there are the arms, legs and feet in the right place with useful fingers on each hand and toes for grippers at the end of our feet. Then we see the senses provided to enjoy all facets of mortal life. Then we are reminded there is a higher power and intelligence directing this whole process of life on earth.

Many of us exercise our great freedom of religion opportunity and show our sense of gratitude in our houses of worship. Others become complacent and miss out on the joy of the spirit found in that freedom of opportunity. Still others have forgotten the Lord altogether as their sense of gratitude has been dulled by the world of mortality.

Yes this is another day. As the night disappears and the moon that lights the earth at night fades away-the bright sun comes up to give our new day the light it needs. Opportunity and blessings abound in our lives this new day. There is a source that made all this opportunity and these blessings possible. Oh the miracle of it all. Don’t forget to thank the Lord today!

Today we are a society in turmoil, confusion and violence. There are many reasons for that environment. A huge reason is centered in the attack on the family. The USA divorce rate is probably the highest in the world now standing close to 52%. The family is the laboratory of society. Whatever comes out of that laboratory is what we get in society. Families are victimized by the counter-culture of instant gratification. This is a selfish and unforgiving culture looking for "what can you do for me." When families are torn apart the children become the victims as quarreling and litigating spouses play the "all about me" game. Often these kids are prey for the immoral predators in our society-including but not limited to the over 40,000 gangs now roaming the nation. Frequently the mother becomes the breadwinner leaving a huge downtime for kids in her custody. Idleness has proven to be the Devil's workshop.

In a fast pace society that is becoming increasingly more political and secular minded it is easy to lose the focus of our own personal self worth and where that self worth comes from.
