OUTRAGEOUS CONDUCT |
Trenton, N.J.; Democratic Senator Robert Torricelli of New Jersey abruptly removed himself from the Senate race 36 days before election in order to allow the party to find a more attractive or elective candidate and thereby maintain control of the Senate. Torricelli's rankings in the polls plummeted after he was accused of taking lavish gifts from a campaign contributor and was admonished by the Senate ethics committee. Commentary; The founders of the constitution envisioned a man or woman would serve their country in an elected office for a short period of time and return home to pursue their own profession. They did not envision elected officials becoming professional politicians, nor a political party "owning" the office or government body. Politics has become an example of down and dirty, greedy power grabs, not to much different from the likes of Enron and WorldCom.
