Lawyer Ralph Nader the crusader insists upon an informed public all the way from full disclosure on manufactured goods to a national public databank on doctors who have been charged with malpractice. Research does not turn up any crusade by lawyer Nader to set up a national public databank on lawyers who have been charged with malpractice or even a databank on lawyers who have had complaints filed against them.
The state bar and/or it's agencies is the disciplinary arm of the judicial system or since the entire system is composed of lawyers then it is the disciplinary system for lawyers. To take the heat off the bar association in some states, a special disciplinary committee has been formed as an arm of the state supreme court. So when you call the bar association in those states to get information on a lawyer under investigation, you are in for a shuffle. For those of us who have turned to one of these bodies in an attempt to expose a fraudulent or malpractice action of a lawyer, most of us have come away knowing that Dracula indeed is in charge of the blood bank here.
United Citizens For Legal Reform has conducted two surveys during the past few years through contact of the state bar association reports and/or state disciplinary records and/or records of the judicial standards commission. The results of those surveys revealed over 100,000 formal complaints of record were filed annually against lawyers and judges nationwide. The surveys also revealed approximately 2% of those formal complaints were ever formally prosecuted. Also noted was the fact that 34 states have a "gag" rule-meaning those who file complaints against lawyers and lawyer-judges are not permitted to talk about the complaint under threat of penalty or punishment. Does this sound like muzzling of freedom of speech rights?
Should anyone doubt the severity of the problem which prompts the massive filing of formal complaints against lawyers or judges, the following information is taken from the files of New York state. In one year lawyers or judges were found guilty and suspended or disbarred for the following causes;
Federal income tax fraud, stealing client funds, mental incapacity, embezzlement, conspiracy to defraud, obstruction of justice, forgery, fraud upon the court, grand larceny, bribery and mail fraud, bribing public official, conspiracy to possess drugs, intent to distribute drugs, rape, accepting a bribe as a judge, deceit and misrepresentation, practicing law while suspended, aggravated harassment, Conspiracy, DWI and Criminal possession of a weapon.
It is worthy to note that there is an increase of lawsuits and complaints filed against lawyer-judges in the USA each year. Although the courts at all levels jealously guard judges with the theory of "absolute judicial immunity", litigants and particularly non-lawyer pro se litigants are filing more complaints annually against judges for violation of constitutional rights.

After September 1, 2003 an administrative charge of $10
will be charged to post these complaints to our national data bank.
Also a search charge of $10 will be charged to search our databanks to non-complaining visitors to the site. If you have filed a complaint, you will be furnished a password and can search the data bank free of charge at any time.
